ABOUT

I’m Renata Schwarz, a contemporary painter based in the Czech Republic.

My work explores colour, texture, contrast and atmosphere through painting and mixed media. I’m interested in the way familiar subjects can be simplified, reinterpreted and gradually transformed into something more personal.

Much of my current work begins with landscape, memory and places I have experienced, but I’m less interested in literal representation than in the feeling, structure and visual tension that remain after a subject has been stripped back.

I work primarily with original paintings on canvas, developing each body of work through studies, experimentation and an intuitive process of editing, layering and simplification.
